Merge a Nuke Commanders

Commander tier list, rarity, effects, and how to unlock. Updated August 2026.

Commander names and patch dates are taken from update coverage. Rarities are listed only where coverage states them; abilities are marked pending unless an in-game card has been read. Nuke The Game does not publish an official roster, and Friday patches rebalance drop rates — always trust your in-game Inventory over any wiki.

Quick Answer

Commanders are a Merge a Nuke feature that applies a passive bonus — cash, spawn, merge/luck, or raid — on top of your nukes. There is no single best commander: the game does not publish ability numbers, so pick by playstyle. Community picks are Gunner, Artillery or Spotter for PvP, Overclocker + Barrier are mandatory for the Rebirth 8 chase, and free players should work map spawns and city clears before spending on packs.

Commander Tier List

Commanders grouped by rarity using community strategy — the game does not publish commander stats, so treat this as a starting framework and match the pick to how you play, not as official numbers.

BThe SpotterRareAutomatically increases launched-missile damageGreat for raiders — destroy fortified bases without needing max-tier nukes. The strongest non-Epic pick for an attack playstyle.

Commander Rarities

Common

Entry-level commanders you unlock early. Small flat income or spawn bonuses — useful at the start, replaced quickly.

Rare

Mid-tier commanders with a noticeable cash or spawn boost. A solid upgrade once you clear the opening tiers.

Epic

Strong commanders with sizeable multipliers. Worth chasing for the mid-to-late game income jump.

Legendary

High-tier commanders just below Admiral, with large multipliers — a late-game target that compounds offline and raid income.

Admiral

The top rarity, above Legendary, introduced in Commanders Pt. 2. Only three units carry it — Drone, Apache and Carrier.

Commander Effects

Every commander applies one main effect. Match the effect to how you play — pure AFK farmers want cash multipliers, while raiders benefit from raid boosts.

Cash multiplier

Boosts the passive cash/sec from every nuke on your grid. The most valuable effect for offline and AFK farming — prioritize it.

Spawn boost

Speeds up how fast you spawn bombs or raises starting tier, so you reach merge-ready duplicates faster in the early game.

Merge / luck boost

Improves merge odds or grants bonus drops, helping you climb the tier ladder with fewer wasted grid slots.

Raid boost

Increases raid damage or steal amount, suited to players who actively raid other bases instead of pure AFK farming.

Best Commander to Pick

Income / AFK

Whatever your highest-rarity cash or production commander is — check the tooltip in Inventory

Passive cash scales every nuke and every offline session. Because no official numbers are published, the honest advice is to compare tooltips rather than trust a fixed ranking.

Wars / PvP

Artillery, Spotter or Gunner

All three are damage-leaning: Gunner explicitly increases nuclear attack damage against players, and Artillery and Spotter are the community's usual shelling and missile-damage picks.

Rebirth 8 chase

Overclocker + Barrier

Rebirth 8 is gated behind both of these plus the final nuke tier. If you are pushing progression, they are mandatory rather than optional.

Free-to-play

Map spawns and city clears over packs

Recon is the only Legendary in the Advanced Warfare pack that also spawns freely, and two thirds of pack rolls land on Rare filler. Clearing event cities targets specific units far more reliably.

How to Unlock Commanders

  1. Open Inventory — the old Commanders button was folded into it in the July 25, 2026 patch.
  2. Unlock or roll commanders using cash, gems, or in-game currency earned from your nukes.
  3. Equip your strongest commander — slot rules have changed across patches, so check your current equip limit in Inventory.
  4. Redeem active codes for cash and nukes to speed up unlocking higher-rarity commanders.

There is no separate commander-only code list. The regular Merge a Nuke codes give cash and nukes you can spend toward unlocking higher-rarity commanders. See every working code on our Codes page — we verify them within 24 hours of each Friday patch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are commanders in Merge a Nuke?

Commanders are a feature added in the Commander Update. You unlock and equip a commander that applies a passive bonus — usually a cash multiplier, spawn boost, merge/luck boost, or raid boost — on top of your nukes.

What is the best commander in Merge a Nuke?

There is no single best pick, because the game does not publish ability numbers. For wars, Gunner is the safest recommendation since its damage bonus against players is explicitly described, with Artillery and Spotter as the community's other PvP picks. For progression, Overclocker and Barrier matter most because Rebirth 8 requires them. For income, compare the tooltips of your highest-rarity cash or production commanders in Inventory.

Is there a Merge a Nuke commander tier list?

Yes — ranked by overall value: S = Legendary cash-multiplier, A = Epic cash/spawn, B = the Rare Spotter (raid damage), C = Common starter commanders. Cash multipliers rank highest because they scale every nuke and your offline income. Rankings are community estimates and can change with Friday patches.

How do I unlock commanders in Merge a Nuke?

Open Inventory on the left side of the screen — the old Commanders button was folded into it in the July 25, 2026 patch — then unlock or roll commanders using in-game currency earned from your nukes. Redeem active codes for cash and nukes to unlock higher-rarity commanders faster.

Are there Merge a Nuke commander codes?

There is no separate commander-only code list — the regular Merge a Nuke codes give cash and nukes you can put toward unlocking commanders. Check our Codes page after every Friday patch.
